4/12/2023 0 Comments Collection nikon fI’ve never owned or shot an F100, but I knew guys that did (I was a photojournalist for over a decade) and they seemed to be fine with them once a grip was added. AF is slower, but metering is fantastic and the F4 is more flexible with old lenses than the F5. This is why I tend to shoot an F4 more than my F5. I’ve always preferred the feel of a vertical grip, but there are a lot of times where it’s unnecessary and the weight reduction could be handy. Unlike the F bodies that came before (and after), you can’t remove the battery pack and grip below. My main complaint, if I have one, is that the F5 can’t get any smaller. I’ve had mine for about 12 years and it’s the camera I trust most if I’m shooting slide film. Autofocus is as fast as any of my digital bodies, and the focus servo that drives AF-D lenses whips from end-to-end with such force that the camera feels like it’s going to fly out of your hands.
